This Kitty Litter Cake Recipe is a truly gross recipe for your Halloween Party that will have your guests talking for weeks. It is fun to make. You can use different cake flavors if you wish since the cake is hidden under a layer of cookie crumbs.

Ingredients

1 spice or German chocolate cake mix
1 white cake mix
2 large packages vanilla instant pudding mix, prepared
1 large package vanilla sandwich cookies
green food coloring
12 small Tootsie Roll candies
You’ll also need:
1 new kitty litter pan
1 new kitty litter pan liner
1 new pooper scooper

Directions

1. Prepare cake mixes and bake according to package directions (any size pan).

2. Prepare pudding according to package directions and chill until ready to assemble.

3. Crumble sandwich cookies in small batches in a food processor, scraping often. Set aside all but 1/4 cup. To the 1/4 cup add a few drops of green food coloring and mix.

4. When cakes are cooled to room temperature, crumble them into a large bowl. Toss with 1/2 of the remaining cookie crumbs, and the chilled pudding. You don’t want it too soggy. Combine gently.

5. Line kitty litter box with the kitty litter liner. Put cake mixture into box.

6. Put half of the unwrapped tootsie rolls in a microwave safe dish and heat until softened. Shape the ends so that they are no longer blunt, and curve the tootsie rolls slightly. Bury tootsie rolls randomly in the cake and sprinkle with half of the remaining cookie crumbs. Sprinkle a small amount of the green colored cookie crumbs lightly over the top.

7. Heat 3 or 4 of the tootsie rolls in the microwave until almost melted. Scrape them on top of the cake and sprinkle lightly with some of the green cookie crumbs. Heat the remaining tootsie rolls until pliable and shape as before. Spread all but one randomly over top of cake mixture. Sprinkle with any remaining cookie crumbs. Hang the remaining tootsie roll over side of litter box and sprinkle with a few green cookie crumbs. Place the box on a newspaper and sprinkle a few of the cookie crumbs around for a truly disgusting effect!

Serve with the pooper scooper for a gross Halloween dessert.

My husband and I used this Halloween party idea for 15 years at our annual Pumpkin Carving Party. Families were invited and it was fun for both adults and kids.

We decorated the house and porchin mainly a pumpkin theme. There were a few ghosts, goblins, witches, spiders and webs around, but the main theme was pumpkins. My granddaughter came over the day before the party to help decorate and get the pumpkin cookies ready to decorate. This became a real tradition for us and made the party even more fun.

We supplied the pumpkins for all of the kids. The kids chose their pumpkin when they arrived and then carved their own design. Some were very elaborate and others were simple.

Parents were allowed to help the little kids.

After the potluck meal that we always included we would give awards for enough categories so that every child would receive an award. We also gave a small token party favor type gift with each award.

Categories would include such things as; Best Pumpkin, Scariest Pumpkin, Most Halloweenish, Best Teeth, Best Eyes, Biggest Pumpkin, Smallest Pumpkin, Most Adorable Pumpkin, Grossest Pumpkin, Most Creative, etc. The list would go on until every child would win. The age appropriate token party favor gift and certificate was given at the end of each vote. I had a relative that did very nice printing. She would print the child’s name on each certificate.

After all of the carving was done and the pumpkins were all lined up on the porch railing, we would call all of the parents and kids together to vote for each category.

My husband would read a category and ask which pumpkin would best fit that category. If everyone pointed to one pumpkin, it would win the prize and certificate for that category. If there were 2 or more pumpkins in that category he would ask for a vote by cheers. The pumpkin with the loudest cheers would win.

The excitement always grew as the contest continued and the yelling and cheering would become more energetic. After the final vote we would all go inside and the kids would decorate pumpkin cookies to eat or take home.

This party became the favorite party for our neighbors and friends for 15 years. Kids would start asking their parents in August when and if we were going to have the party. We even had kids come back from college and bring friends so that they could attend.

A few safety tips from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission can protect children who plan to go trick-or-treating this Halloween.

Halloween Treats:

Warn children not to eat any treats before an adult has carefully examined them for evidence of tampering.

Flame Resistant Costumes:

When purchasing a costume, masks, beards, and wigs, look for the label Flame Resistant. Although this label does not mean these items won’t catch fire, it does indicate the items will resist burning and should extinguish quickly once removed from the ignition source. To minimize the risk of contact with candles or other sources of ignition, avoid costumes made with flimsy materials and outfits with big, baggy sleeves or billowing skirts.

Halloween Costume Designs:

Purchase or make costumes that are light and bright enough to be clearly visible to motorists.

For greater visibility during dusk and darkness, decorate or trim costumes with reflective tape that will glow in the beam of a car’s headlights. Bags or sacks should also be light colored or decorated with reflective tape. Reflective tape is usually available in hardware, bicycle, and sporting goods stores.

To easily see and be seen, children should also carry flashlights.

Costumes should be short enough to prevent children from tripping and falling.

Children should wear well-fitting, sturdy shoes . Mother’ s high heels are not a good idea for safe walking.

Hats and scarfs should be tied securely to prevent them from slipping over children’s eyes.

Apply a natural mask of cosmetics rather than have a child wear a loose-fitting mask that might restrict breathing or obscure vision. If a mask is used, however, make sure it fits securely and has eyeholes large enough to allow full vision.

Swords, knives, and similar costume accessories should be of soft and flexible material.
Pedestrian Safety: Young children should always be accompanied by an adult or an older, responsible child. All children should WALK, not run from house to house and use the sidewalk if available, rather than walk in the street. Children should be cautioned against running out from between parked cars, or across lawns and yards where ornaments, furniture, or clotheslines present dangers.

Choosing Safe Houses:

Children should go only to homes where the residents are known and have outside lights on as a sign of welcome.

Children should not enter homes or apartments unless they are accompanied by an adult.

People expecting trick-or-treaters should remove anything that could be an obstacle from lawns, steps and porches. Candlelit jack-o’-lanterns should be kept away from landings and doorsteps where costumes could brush against the flame. Indoor jack-o’-lanterns should be kept away from curtains, decorations, and other furnishings that could be ignited.
